7 Life Lessons from the Kardashian Clan

Posted on February 17 2016

Everything about The Kewl Shop is inspired by you, socialites, celebrities, and high fashion designers.

Gaining inspiration from our favorite stars is one of the best ways to upstyle your wardrobe and add texture and depth to your everyday outfits. What you wear is often influenced by your lifestyle. If you find yourself on a trail riding your bike or walking regularly then you likely have a closet full of tennis shoes or sneakers. Likewise if you are constantly invited to after work socials and cocktails then you probably have a healthy selection of sexy and timeless bandage dresses.

There are other factors that contribute to your style such as attitude, influences, and your outlook on life. With current technology, social media and forums we are able to create and revamp our styles daily based on a variety of influences from some of the most recognized socialites in the 21st century. Some of the most influential socialites today are the Kardashians.

Who are the Kardashians? Robert Kardashian was on the legal team that represented O.J. Simpson in his trial concerning the murder of his wife. Though evidence was stacked against Simpson during his trail his legal team was able to convince a jury that he was innocent. The case is full of controversy and doubt. Read a high level recap of it here

How did Kim and her clan rise from out of simple wealth and prestige to become leading influencers in fashion, self love, and romance? The Kardashians became notorious when a sex tape starring Kim Kardashian West and Ray J was leaked to the public. The family managed to turn the sex tape notoriety into a reality television show and has since built a successful business empire that includes product lines of clothing, perfume, and more.

Kardashian Family

Through their rise to fame the family has made a substantial impression on the fashion industry and society as a whole. Their reality television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians gives us a glimpse into their world of fame, power, and influence. The show is a resounding success and premiered its 11th season in November 2015.

We read about them often in tabloids, have watched their family grow and expand with children, look forward to their features and spreads in magazines like Vogue, W Magazine, and Playboy, and envy their curves. Yet there is so much more that this family brings to us that is often overlooked.

In this article we cover seven life lessons to be learned from the Kardashian that inspire us to grow, learn to embrace and love our curves, how to live without shame (no matter what), and how to inspire a unique style that oozes confidence, self awareness, and femininity.

Work hard and own it

The Kardashians aren't singers, dancers, or actresses yet they engage their audience, inspire women to be beautiful and handle the pressures of the world with femininity and grace. The clan may have risen to fame on the skirts of a sex tape but unlike other sex tape leaks they took the attention and capitalized on it - literally.

Hilary Hinton, better known as Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker of our time hones in on the importance of preparation and positive mental thinking to succeed in life. He explains, "You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win and expect to win.” Planning to win was just what the Kardashian clan seemed to aim for.

They didn’t shy away in shame, sue whoever leaked it, or anything of the sort. Instead they signed a contract for their own reality show and worked together to make the show what it is today - 11 seasons strong. The family has a net worth of just over $600 million. It is a combined effort of each family member who works constantly at achieving what they put their minds too.

You are not defined by your past

Kim Kardashian West became a household name when her sex tape scandal created negative buzz. This was, perhaps, the biggest scandal the family ever faced at the time. However, Kim held her head high and did not allow it to destroy her. While, many argue that she shouldn't have made the sex tape in the first place the point is rather that we’ve all made big crucial mistakes in our lives. Like Kim we should hold our heads high and live with courage in spite of what mistakes we've made in the past.

Brian Tracy explains, "There are two ways to look at the world: the benevolent way or the malevolent way. People with a malevolent or negative worldview take a victim stance, seeing life as a continuous succession of problems and a process of unfairness and oppression. They can’t move forward, don’t expect a lot and don’t get much. When things go wrong, they shrug their shoulders and passively accept that this is the way life is and there isn’t anything they can do to make it better.

On the other hand, people who practice positive thinking see the world around them as filled with opportunities and possibilities. They believe that everything happens as part of a great process designed to make them successful and happy. They approach their lives, their work, and their relationships with optimism, cheerfulness, and a general attitude of positive thinking and expectations. They stay positive, expect a lot and are seldom disappointed."

Kim's positive thinking and attitude transformed her circumstances and inspired her family. Within only 8 months of the wake of this scandal Kim Kardashian West embraced her curves, apologized for nothing, and held her head high. Since then, the family has faced many other scandals involving failed marriages, obesity, dating partner choices, gender transformation, and much more. But no matter what, the family continues to move forward and reign like American royalty.

Understanding positive thinking and resisting the temptation to be a victim is one of the very first steps to understanding what it truly means to be kewl and never allowing your past failures to influence your success today.

You can’t make everyone happy

The Kardashians contInue to share their most private, embarrassing, and perhaps even shameless content to the public; almost on a daily basis. The Kardashian family gets more criticism during the day than you are likely to get in all of your lifetime. Allow this to inspire your outlook on life and encourage you to take more chances with your everyday apparel. Try bold colors or risky textures and graphic tees with your denims this spring.

Realize that you are never going to be able to satisfy and appease everyone in your social circle. Yet like the Kardashians you just may inspire a friend to be more daring and not worry about what others think.

Live like nobody’s watching

If you take a look at any of the Instagram accounts for the Kardashian sisters, you don't only see professional photos, endorsements, or beauty campaigns. Instead you get a glimpse into their everyday lives that includes normal activities like a trip to the pumpkin patch or just goofing off with family taking selfies.

The Kardashians live their lives. They travel near and far, enjoy the simplicities alongside the luxuries, and always find the comfort of family near by. Take time to live your life, your own unique way. Create your own kind of luxuries, enjoy your own kind of pumpkin patch, and share it with those you love.

Bernard Baruch, political consultant and philanthropist, once said, "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind."

 Listen to your heart

Society has shamed many of the family’s life choices that include Kim Kardashian's 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, Khloe’s decision to divorce Lamar, and the transformation of Caitlyn Jenner. But these are all great evidences of the fact that you must listen to your heart - no matter the outcome. Through the clan's fortitude and structure we learn what it means to be empowered to make your own life’s decisions.

Sam Russell, author from Tiny Buddha, explains, "Sometimes giving in to persuasion is a way of stepping back into our comfort zone." Choose paths that are best for you and go with your gut feelings instead of pleasing others or being put under pressure to fit into a mold or preconceived notion of who the world expects you to be.

If you want to put on a hot little two piece or a draping gown that reveals way too much skin do so with confidence and don't allow the influences of others to dictate your thoughts and style.

Embrace your body - no matter what

The world admires the beauty found within the Kardashian family. A primary lesson we have learned from this family is that self love is the only love that matters.

Kim once expressed in an Elle magazine interview, “It’s taken me a long time to be happy with my body and for my confidence to grow to what it is today. I grew up when the body to have was the tall, slim, supermodel one, like Cindy Crawford’s. No one looked like me. It’s good to break the mould and recreate one. I’m an Armenian girl, I have shape, and it turned out people liked that. That makes me feel good about myself and about other women for being so supportive. I am a confident woman, but I didn’t just arrive confident – it has built over the years and that is a big part of who I am now."

Kim Kardashian West may have been denied by critics and ignored by the media, yet everyday women relate to her curves, facial features, and flaws. Taking time to learn to love every one of your curves and flaws is the best way to live unashamedly.

Give Back

Kim Kardashian West is not just another pretty faced socialite, mother, sister, and friend. She encourages other celebrities to donate clothes to raise money for many charities and shares her fame and fortune with her family and all the people she works with. Giving back and expecting nothing in return is the only way to give.

She traveled to South Africa to raise money for Russell Simmons Diamond Empowerment Fund which aims to empower those in poverty where diamonds are a natural source, has made various trips to Mattel Children’s Hospital, and supports "I Heart My Girlfriends" and many more women’s empowerment movements and agencies. Giving back in an essential part of contributing to humanity.
