Who is Wearing Bandage Dresses Today?
Posted on December 08 2015
The late 1980s saw designer Azzedine Alaia showcase a new type of dress that soon became a staple in the wardrobe of every A-list celebrity – the bandage dress. However, the credit for making bandage dresses such a fashion staple for more than a decade deserves to go to fashion designer Hervé Léger. Léger specialized in creating chic and body hugging bandage dresses in many colors during the 1990s and the brand continues to do so.
Recently, former Léger executive Patrick Couderc shot to the ill-famed spotlight by outlining who should not be wearing the signature bandage dresses created by the brand. Clumping together curvy women and lesbians, Couderc’s guidelines were not appreciated by the company or the women who love wearing Léger originals. His statements did serve to drive the focus on who is wearing bandage dresses today though. Here are some celebrities who have stepped out in these lovely creations in confidence:
Jennifer LopezJLo first jumped on the bandage dress bandwagon in 2009 with a sensational fuchsia color-block Léger original. The years have not reduced her love for the iconic dress. Flaunting her coveted hourglass figure, Jennifer Lopez wore a Preen ‘Dew’ red bandage dress to Jimmy Kimmel Live! in Los Angeles in March 2015. The mid-length bandage dress featured straps that created a flattering silhouette by crossing on the bodice and side cutouts to add a bit more tempation to the look.
Featuring gradient coloring, the ombre bandage dress is a preferred choice for many celebrities. Selena Gomez flaunted a strapless pink ombre bandage dress on location of the Neighbors 2 shoot in September 2015. Gomez gave pretty-in-pink a whole new meaning with the dress paired with hot pink feather earrings and sexy strappy pink stilettos.
Kim Kardashian is a bandage dress advocate and we all have been inspired by her confidence to pull off the look. She created an iconic style with her sober pink plunging neckline bandage dress. The look was so hot that NYC’s Madame Tussaud’s has immortalize her wearing it. The voluptuous Kim has a wide selection of bandage dresses and wears them often and in attention grabbing fashion.
Supermodel Irina Shayk wore a bandage dress to the premiere of Twelve. Her chosen teal dress fit her slender silhouette like a second-skin while the zip-front effortless streamlines the cut for a chic and sophisticated ensemble.
Jennifer Love HewittJennifer Love Hewitt has inspired a generation of bandage dress lovers and in many ways is the driving force behind the style's cult-like following. She is known for her love for Léger bandage dresses and has is often spotted wearing figure-hugging bandage dresses in shades of red, midnight blue, black, white, gray, and pink.
Miranda KerrSupermodel Miranda Kerr regularly rocks bandage dresses and we kinda love her for it. The Victoria’s Angel had the paparazzi swooning at her voluptuous figure in a square-necked ombre red bandage dress. She's the reason behind making a light pink Léger bandage dress popular during her Fox Friends appearance. She's an Australian beauty that knows how to walk the line between looking sizzling hot while being chic and innocent every time she puts on one of her bandage dresses.
Named the “World’s Most Dominant Athlete” by Sports Illustrated, UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey showed off a soft pink bandage dress created by the House of CB earlier this year at Jimmy Kimmel Live! She paired her chic dress with understated Manolo Blahnik heels and drop earrings.
Following (a little too close) at Rousey’s heels, singer Nicole Scherzinger also rocked the very same dress a day later at New York City! However, Scherzinger has a long-standing love affair with bandage dresses and has previously worn sensuous bandage dresses in purple and pink.
Who can forget singer Katy Perry’s futuristic paneled bandage dress at the MTV Movie Awards? Her dress just goes to show how incredibly versatile the bandage dress can be! While they are typically solid color, you can find bandage dresses in different textures such as woven, foil, or horizontal steps, as well as in a wide variety of patters and prints.
Actress Adrianne Palicki showcased a crystal-embellished white Léger bandage dress at the LA premiere of the movie Legions in 2010. The square-necked number remains one of her iconic looks till date and we kind of like it that way.
58-year old Real Housewife of NYC reality TV star Ramona Singer is an inspiration for stunning fashion over 50 trends. She puts on a bandage dress regularly and states, “I’ll never retire my bandage dress – I’ll be wearing it through my 70s,”. We simply agree. Why would you Ramona? - you look amazing!
A part of the Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner is a fashion icon in her own right. Her 2015 MTV VMA cutout black bandage dress may be risqué for some but she pull it off effortlessly and with class and style.
