Celebrity Bandage Dresses Stand the Test of Time
Posted on March 24 2016
The bandage dress continues to pop up almost everywhere. From runways to red carpet events the dress makes a statement, keeps things versatile, and brings gracious sex appeal that stylists, celebrities, and everyday women have come to rely on. From models to A-list movie and television stars - the bandage dress (in an array of different colors, designs, and styles) has been found in online publications and around the fashion world since the mid 1980s.
The longevity of the bandage dress is secure. These dresses are designed to suck you in, smooth your feminine proportions, and define your shape. They are constructed in such a way to hug your curves like a second skin. Although tight and snug they are unexpectedly comfortable and easy to wear for long periods. Bandage dresses come in various styles to flatter practically every body type.
In honor of bandage dresses let’s take a brief walk through the years to celebrate how celebrities have pulled off these sexy little numbers - because 2016 means that we’ve partnered with the bandage dress for incredible and feminine style for more than 30 years. (For a more complete history check out our post on The History of the Bandage Dress.)
Jennifer Lopez, was recently photographed (February 2016) in a yellow bandage dress style that featured a lace up front plunge neckline. The plunge was deep and graced her midriff to expose sexy skin and define her figure. In a rather surprising move - this figuring hugging dress was not designer and purchased at an online retailer. While the color was quite a departure from the norm, it was simple, refreshing, and uncommonly sexy without being risky. The dress complimented her skin tone, flowing brown locks, and was adorned with classic jewelry.
She paired it with bold makeup and hooped gold earrings. Lopez was out celebrating the beginning of her Las Vegas residency. The lace up plunge neckline reveals a lovely, full bustline and soft feminine shoulders. Yes - we believe she pulled off the hot little bandage dress with ease.
It seems Lea Michele is also a fan of the bandage dress. The former Glee star and current Scream Queen actress was snapped on set during a television appearance at Universal Studios in Hollywood. Lea Michele also known as Rachel Berry wore a tanned scoop neck bandage dress with stripe black imprints. The knee length dress offers sophisticated and chic style that was elegant and paired perfectly with her Christian Louboutin high heels. Unfortunately, we do not know the origins of the dress but we are banking on a Hervé Léger design.
In February - Naya Rivera attended a Vanity Fair party honoring Young Hollywood. It is hard to believe that she gave birth to her son just 5 months ago. The 29-year-old former Glee star wowed in a Tadashi Shoji white dress with a very low neckline. We loved the look. It was crisp and fresh. She wore a turquoise bandage dress by Guess Marciano in an episode of Glee. The Glee bandage dress style was quite a risqué dress with a rather revealing bust - leaving very little to our imagination. Did Naya pull off the dress with class? We believe she did.
While she may be busy planning her wedding to Australian Millionaire James Packer, Carey has worn figuring hugging dresses since the early 1990s. She is one of the few celebrities that gives Kim Kardashian West a run for her money when it comes to ownership of high end designer bandage dresses. Her appreciation for the creations by Hervé Léger is undeniable.
Carey most recently wore a red bandage dress during a Hallmark Christmas movie. The movie was appropriately titled Christmas Melody. She wore a similar dress to a gala dinner in New York in mid 2015. This dress was floor length, figure hugging, and showed more skin than most of us choose. It remains to be seen if she will turn back time and put on a bandage or bodycon dress on her wedding day.
The songstress is currently wearing sexy bandage dresses every evening at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Where she is performing her Las Vegas residency. There is no doubt that Mariah Carey’s signature look has a bandage dress at its core and we love her for it. She has worn them well for more than two decades. Do we approve? Absolutely.
Kim Kardashian West
It is safe to say that Kim Kardashian West endorses bandage dresses for every girl, everywhere. Kim even wore them while pregnant with her first born daughter North and more recently with her son Saint. She was photographed in 2015 in a sludgy green and nude bodycon dress at her 35th birthday party. The KUWTK (Keeping Up With The Kardashians) star loves Balmain (Olivier Rousteing) and Givenchy (Riccardo Tisci).
She’s also a fan of Hervé Léger creations and is known to have a bandage dress in almost every color. While her style may have matured since her marriage to Kanye West. We still love the adventurous and daring side of Kim - the Kim in a colorful bandage dress. So yes – she wore it well and we will always “like” a throwback picture of Kim Kardashian West in a bandage dress any day of the week!
It was incredibly tricky to pinpoint one of Kylie’s best bandage dresses. So we deviated from the path and chose to review them all. Well the most eye catching ones from 2015.
Kylie Jenner spent most of 2015 on the red carpet at fashion or social events. She was obviously taking a break from Instagram. Here are some examples. Kyle wore a grey celebrity designed dress in March. This dress accentuated her new curvy physique.
She was then photographed at Nobu (in late August) in Malibu in an Exposure Taupe Cut Out Bandage Dress in brown. This dress was by Mistress Rocks. At the MTV Video Music Awards (midway through the year), Kylie wore a tight-fitting tanned Balmain dress at the start of the evening and then ended the evening in an eye-catching black bandage dress with fabric cut out over the bust and stomach.
Kylie continued to dominate the social scene at the American Music Awards. KJ wore two bandage dresses – one for the show, and one for the after party. The show stopping dress was a white Bryan Hearns leather dress with chains. Kylie then opted to wear the ‘Sacha’ white bandage dress from House of CB for the after party.
There is no doubt that Kylie is following in Kim’s footsteps when it comes to bandage dresses. She truly has an affinity for them. And we are sure there will be plenty more photo opportunities with Kylie in one. In closing, Kylie rarely misses a step when it comes to her choice of dress. She wore them ALL well!
It is only fitting that Gigi Hadid and Kylie Jenner share the same space or follow one another. The pair are of course best friends. The Victoria’s Secret model has a very modern sense of style. She wore the The ‘Kiyoko’ two-piece simple bandeau bandage top and pencil skirt (in black) to the after party of the American Music Awards. The sexy ensemble was from House of CB. While the outfit wasn’t entirely a bandage dress – it makes the list because it came close to being one.
Earlier this year - the 20-year -old wore a sensational black bodycon dress to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. It not only turned heads on the red carpet but she was a sight for sore eyes sitting in the front row. On both occasions, Gigi made the right call on the fashion front. She wore both pieces well. And we think Zayn Malik would have agreed with our assessment.
