DIY Beauty Face Masks

Last year, my skin looked so dull that I almost saw a dermatologist. My grandmother, a true believer of home remedies and soul healing, suggested I start using face masks prepared by her.

Of course, being a modern woman, I didn’t quite believe in the benefits of a homemade facemask. However, that changed after using her Aloe Vera face mask for over a month.

I began to notice the difference it made to my skin and realized that skincare isn’t just about going to the spas or specialists.

Why Natural Face Masks are Important

A natural face mask will moisturize and replenish your skin affordably and is potentially more healthy for your skin than mass-manufactured, chemical-based face masks.

All of the masks mentioned in this article have undeniable benefits as they’re able to sit on your skin from 10 to 20 minutes, giving it an ample amount of time for your skin to absorb the ingredients.

When the vitamins and nutrients penetrate your skin, they deep clean the clogged pores and remove the dead skin.

These face masks are perfect if you’re on a budget or don’t have the time to go to a spa.

All of the ingredients are readily available in your kitchen, so making each mask requires no more than 5 minutes.

To summarize, face masks help cleanse, brighten, soften, tighten and exfoliate the skin.

3. Milk And Banana

Milk and banana

The best way to hydrate patchy and dry skin is to apply banana and milk.

On the other hand, if your skin is excessively oily, use a combination of banana and rosewater

Bananas help peel off dead skin while milk acts as a clarifying agent, making it a perfect choice when you want to have clear, glowing skin.

For this face mask, you’ll need:

1 tablespoon of milk

1 mashed banana

Method:

Apply the face mask on your face, neck, and skin. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it with warm water. Pat dry the skin to notice the glow.

1 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoons yogurt

10. Sandalwood And Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also packed with antioxidants that moisturize and soothe skin. Sandalwood powder helps reduce the signs of aging such as wrinkles and dry skin and prevents acne.

For this face mask, you’ll need:

1 tablespoon sandalwood powder

1 teaspoon honey

2 tablespoons fresh aloe vera

Method:

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and apply it over your neck and face. Rinse with cold water after 10 minutes.

11. Rice Flour, Honey, Oatmeal

Oatmeal

Rice contains allantoin and ferulic acid, both of which work great as a natural sunscreen. Since it also has anti-inflammatory properties, it soothes sunburns.

On the other hand, oats contain saponins that act as natural cleansers and help remove oil and dirt that clog pores.

For this face mask, you’ll need:

1 tablespoon ground up or blitzed rice

1 teaspoon honey

1 tablespoon oats

1 teaspoon flour to bind

Method:

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and apply it over your neck and face. Rinse with cold water after 10 minutes.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Face Masks

Maximize the effectiveness of your face mask by keeping in mind the following tips:

Do’s:

  • Always splash cold water on your skin after removing the mask. The cold water helps close the pores and lock all the goodness of the ingredients.
  • Choose a face mask depending on your skin type.
  • Always apply a moisturizer after you pat dry the skin.
  • Wash your skin with a mild cleanser before applying the mask. Doing this will allow the mask to penetrate better.
  • Leave the mask on for the specified duration only. Removing it too early or leaving it on for too long might not have the desired effects.

Don’ts:

  • Immediately remove the mask if your skin feels irritated or begin to get an allergic reaction such as a rash, itching, or redness.
  • Avoid applying the masks over twice a week.
  • Never scrub your skin when removing the mask to avoid making your skin red or irritated.
